Viktor Hovland wins Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title

Norway's Viktor Hovland secured a remarkable victory at the Tour Championship and clinched the FedEx Cup title at East Lake in Atlanta. Hovland's final round of seven-under-par 63 secured his win by a margin of five strokes, finishing at 27 under, and earning him $18 million along with the title.
 
Despite leading by six strokes entering the final round, Hovland faced pressure from Xander Schauffele, who shot a 62 and narrowed the gap to three strokes with six holes to play. However, Hovland responded with a strong finish, birdieing the last three holes to solidify his lead.
 
Hovland described his approach, adapting to Schauffele's challenge and changing his game plan. Both players began strongly after a weather delay, with four birdies each in the opening six holes.
 
Schauffele's birdies on the eighth, 11th, and 12th holes brought him within three strokes, but Hovland's par-saving 23-foot putt on the 14th was a turning point, maintaining his momentum and securing a crucial par.
 
Hovland's sixth birdie on the 16th ended a series of pars, and he added two more on the 17th and 18th to secure his sixth PGA Tour victory and his most significant career win.
 
Schauffele also played a bogey-free round, finishing second at 22 under, earning him the $6.5 million runner-up prize from the $75 million bonus pool. Wyndham Clark finished third at 16 under.
 
Rory McIlroy, who battled a back injury throughout the week, finished fourth at 14 under with a five-under 65 on the final day. Despite his injury concerns, McIlroy expressed his excitement about preparing for the Ryder Cup, which will take place in late September near Rome.
 
The Ryder Cup teams will soon be finalized, with the US team's selections announced by captain Zach Johnson on Tuesday, and Europe's captain, Luke Donald, announcing his captain's picks on September 4. The Ryder Cup will occur from September 29 to October 1 at the Marco Simone Golf Club.
