Posted : 10 July 2023
American golfer Allisen Corpuz secured her first victory on the LPGA Tour by winning the US Women's Open at Pebble Beach. The 25-year-old finished three shots ahead of England's Charley Hull and South Korea's Shin Ji-yai.
Corpuz shot a three-under 69 in the final round to finish at nine-under overall. Hull produced an impressive 66 in the closing round to move up from seventh place to tie for second.
Corpuz remained under par for all four rounds and described the experience as a dream come true. A pivotal moment came at the par-three 12th hole when she made a crucial par putt while her closest competitor, Nasa Hataoka, missed a par putt to fall two shots behind.
Hull made a late charge with a birdie at the 16th hole, but Corpuz responded with birdies at the 14th and 15th holes to surge ahead by four shots.
Despite a bogey at the 17th, Corpuz maintained a three-shot lead and enjoyed the closing hole at Pebble Beach. This marked the first time the US Women's Open was held at the iconic venue.
Hull tied her best finish at a major, having previously been the runner-up at the 2016 Chevron Championship. She had a strong start with an eagle and multiple birdies but couldn't catch up to Corpuz's lead.
Other notable performances included Scotland's Gemma Dryburgh and Ireland's Leona Maguire finishing tied for 31st place. England's Bronte Law and Jodi Ewart Shadoff secured 45th and 48th place, respectively. Ireland's Aine Donegan was the second-best amateur player, finishing one shot behind Italy's Benedetta Moresco.
