UCI, WBD Sports end Track Champions League, revamp Nations Cup

Posted : 24 March 2025

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports have confirmed that the UCI Track Champions League will not continue beyond 2024. Instead, efforts will be directed toward revitalizing the UCI Track Nations Cup starting in 2026. This decision aligns with the upcoming Olympic cycle, culminating in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, as WBD Sports redefines its role in promoting track cycling.

From 2026, the UCI Track Nations Cup will be rebranded as the UCI Track World Cup. This revamped competition will play a key role in determining qualification for the UCI World Championships and Olympic events. It will feature three rounds, including Olympic disciplines and the elimination race, a format well-received by audiences.

WBD Sports will leverage its media expertise to enhance the UCI Track World Cup’s reach, providing extensive coverage across Europe and globally. The event will be available on various platforms, including linear TV, digital channels, and social media. In regions where WBD Sports does not offer coverage, fans will be able to watch the competition live on the UCI YouTube channel, subject to geo-blocking restrictions.

UCI President David Lappartient expressed gratitude for WBD Sports’ contributions to the UCI Track Champions League over the past four years. He acknowledged the event’s impact in elevating track cycling’s profile. Lappartient is optimistic that their continued partnership on the UCI Track World Cup will further boost the sport’s popularity leading up to the 2028 Olympics.

Chris Ball, Vice-President of Cycling Events at WBD Sports Europe, highlighted track cycling’s thrilling nature and emphasized their commitment to broadcasting elite-level men’s and women’s competitions. He affirmed their enthusiasm for showcasing the UCI Track World Cup alongside their extensive road and mountain biking coverage to a global audience.

The UCI has now opened the bidding process for hosting the 2026, 2027, and 2028 editions of the UCI Track World Cup. Interested organizers are encouraged to reach out via email at track@uci.ch for more information.

Once bids are reviewed and approved by the UCI Management Committee, the official calendar for the 2026–2028 UCI Track World Cup editions will be released. This new initiative aims to maintain track cycling’s momentum and ensure its continued global appeal.
