The Nigeria U-18 team defeated New Caledonia 37-29 in their quest for glory on Day 1 of the IHF Trophy Championship in Kosovo.
The team, coached by Emeka Nnamani, had been in camp in Lagos before flying to Kosovo. They started on a strong note, with players like Farouk Kareem dictating the team’s movement, but they fell behind 7-5 within the first 10 minutes of the game.
The team rallied back in the first half and took control, ending the first half with a 19-15 lead.
New Caledonia started the second half trying to reduce the deficit, but Nigeria’s fighting spirit, fueled by Coach Emeka Nnamani’s tactics, took advantage of New Caledonia's mistakes to increase their lead and secure the win, 37-29.
Nigeria’s Mustapha Mohammed was named the player of the match at the end of the game.
Nigeria will now face host nation Kosovo in their next game.
