U-18 Handball C’Ship: Nigeria faces Chinese Taipei in final placement match

Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s Handball team will now take on Chinese Taipei in the placement match of the ongoing 10th IHF Women’s Youth World Championship in Chuzhou, China.


Nigeria failed to qualify for the quarterfinals following a 31-11 loss to Croatia in their opening group game.


They also lost 26-9 against Montenegro in their second Group B fixture before securing a 29-21 victory over Angola, their only win in five matches.


On Tuesday, the Nigerian team lost 22-23 to Chile in the President’s Cup at the Olympic Sports Centre, followed by a 33-14 defeat against Austria.


The quarterfinals will take place today (Thursday) at the International Handball Hall and the Olympic Sports Centre in Chuzhou.


Hungary will face Serbia, while Croatia will go up against Denmark. France will play against Germany, and Japan, the only non-European team, will battle Spain.


Denmark has won the trophy on two occasions (Canada 2006, Montenegro 2012), while Croatia, France, Spain, and Japan have never won a medal.


Serbia, Germany, and Hungary have previously competed in the final.
