Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who earns approximately $17.5 million annually as an NFL analyst for CBS, is set to participate in a PGA Tour Q-School pre-qualifier later this month, according to a report by Golf Channel. The pre-qualifier will be held from September 18-20 at Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kansas.
Despite his busy football schedule, Romo is expected to manage his commitments efficiently. He and Jim Nantz will cover the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs game this Sunday before Romo heads to Wichita for the pre-qualifier. The Wednesday-to-Friday tournament schedule is unlikely to interfere significantly with his broadcasting duties.
Romo, who is 44, has previously entered Q-School but has not advanced past the pre-qualifying round in the last two years. However, he did progress to the first stage in 2018 before being eliminated. PGA Tour Q-School provides a route for golfers to earn tour cards for the upcoming season, with opportunities for those who fall short to gain status on the Korn Ferry Tour or the PGA Tour Americas.
In addition to his Q-School attempts, Romo has competed in various PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour events on sponsors' exemptions, including the 2019 Byron Nelson. While he has missed the cut three times and withdrawn once, he has also tried to qualify for the US Open in the past.
