Tony Finau addressed speculation on Wednesday about leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf, following rumors that arose after he withdrew from this week's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. His absence from the event and lack of registration for the upcoming Sentry Tournament of Champions fueled incorrect assumptions that Finau, the 26th-ranked player in the world, was leaving the PGA Tour.
In an interview with Golfweek, Finau clarified that his withdrawal was due to a "standard" medical procedure on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus and remove cartilage. He had previously dealt with a similar issue in his right knee. Finau confirmed that this recovery period would ensure he is ready to compete in The Sentry from January 2-5 at Kapalua in Hawaii, dismissing the rumors surrounding his career.
Finau expressed his satisfaction with his position on the PGA Tour and his excitement for the 2025 season. Despite a winless 2024, where he had one runner-up finish, five top-10s, and 15 top-25 finishes, he remains focused on his goals. With six career victories since 2015, Finau continues to solidify his place among the top players, although he is still seeking his first major championship win, despite notable top-five finishes in all four major tournaments.
