Tommy Fleetwood rejects LIV Golf offer, commits to current path

Posted : 20 January 2024

Tommy Fleetwood, a key member of Europe's 2023 Ryder Cup-winning team, has rejected an offer to join the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf despite ongoing alignment talks with the PGA Tour. The 33-year-old Englishman, who prioritizes what he believes is best for his golf game, remains committed to his current trajectory.

While some prominent players, including Jon Rahm, have joined LIV for its larger prize funds and no-cut events, Fleetwood has no plans to switch at the moment. Talks between Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which funds LIV Golf, and the PGA Tour have yet to reach an agreement.

Fleetwood, a Ryder Cup teammate of Rahm, affirmed his focus on playing in Dubai at the Dubai Desert Classic and emphasized his commitment to chasing childhood dreams and being the best golfer he can be.

Despite ongoing approaches from LIV, Fleetwood, like many others, will patiently wait to see how the situation unfolds. The golfer acknowledges that some may choose to join LIV, while others may not, and the future might see players either competing together or not. Fleetwood remains dedicated to his current path and ambitions.

Tyrrell Hatton, another British golfer ranked 15th in the world, shared Fleetwood's sentiment about ongoing conversations with LIV and affirmed his contentment with playing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Hatton, who partnered with Rahm at the Ryder Cup, expressed his satisfaction with his current tour affiliations, leaving the door open for potential future developments.
