The organizers of the 2024 Eko Celebrity Global Fight Concert announced on Friday that the show is expected to target more underprivileged entertainers and sportsmen and women, giving them the platform to grow.
The organizers of the 2024 sports and entertainment show, also referred to as the "Biggest gathering of Stars," made the pledge at its unveiling held at the Kingscelia Hotel and Event Centre on Jibowu Street, Lagos.
The event was attended by an array of stars, including Nigerian-born two-time women's World Champion in Kickboxing, Loveth Ekufu, also known as the "Nigeria Terminator," the 2nd Vice President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Zakky Azzay, among others.
Speaking about the project, Ekufu, the first Nigerian and African to be crowned world champion in women's Kickboxing, said that the event is packed with many activities aimed at discovering hidden talents in Nigeria's sports and entertainment industry.
"We are actually looking for a way to provide platforms for the abundance of talent in Nigeria's sports and entertainment industry.
"What baffles me is that Nigeria is full of talent, while those concerned are not doing enough to put these athletes in the spotlight and on the world platform, which should have been a great profitable investment.
"If I had not been discovered by the President of the Nigeria Kickboxing Federation (NKF), Wilson Godwin, out of nowhere, and he personally took me to Ghana, I would not have become the undisputed world champion.
"If I had not been discovered, only God knows where I would have been. It's time to discover more talent in the grassroots," she said.
Ekufu further stated that the discovery of talent in Nigeria should not be left to the government alone, adding that more corporate sponsors could also invest in this profitable venture.
"Without a doubt, Nigeria is blessed with many talents out there, undiscovered. We cannot let this slide because we have a duty to discover more, and that is one of the main reasons for this world concert.
"Over time, Nigeria has been a powerhouse in combat sports worldwide, and I know that there are many more who need the platform to thrive that I am now giving them.
"When we talk about the government, we are all in it together. We should also support the government in launching more of our hidden talents onto the world stage.
"I urge more corporate organizations to get involved in this project and provide the necessary support to launch our young ones onto the world platform, which is all they need," she said.
Ekufu further reiterated that providing more platforms for youth sports would greatly help in reducing youth restiveness and criminal activities.
"This event, the 2024 Eko Celebrity Global Fight Concert, is not just about sports; we also have one of the biggest industries in Nigeria, entertainment, as one of the major events.
"As part of the lined-up events, we have top-rated musicians performing, comedians, fashion shows, and many more side attractions.
"We are looking for the real stars in Nigeria, those who can perform better than I did and those who can break world records," she said.
The former president of NKF, Godwin, said that Nigeria, being blessed with many athletes, needed more championships and tournaments to discover more talent.
"I have come across many young Nigerians who need a platform to showcase their talents. I always say to myself, more competition will help.
"My passion is to discover more great athletes for Nigeria, those who can make the nation proud.
"So for the 2024 Eko Celebrity Global Fight Concert, I urge interested young people to seize this opportunity to launch themselves into the limelight.
"We expect many scouts from all over the world to be in attendance and help the younger ones fulfill their dreams," he said.
Ace musician, Zakky Azzay, said that the coming together of two of Nigeria's money-spinning ventures would further provide more employment for young Nigerians.
"We are on the right path with this project, which I expect will involve many Nigerian youths.
"This is the right model for developing the youth, which involves investing in what appeals to them most. We have many upcoming musicians who will be interested in this laudable project," he said.
According to Ekufu, the 2024 Eko Celebrity Global Fight Concert will be held at the Queens Park Event Centre on Water Corporation Drive, Victoria Island, in September.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) also said that many athletes from all over the world would be in attendance for auditions and talent hunts.
Activities lined up for the 3-day event include the face of celebrity global beauty pageant, live music and entertainment, international celebrity boxing/wrestling entertainment fights, and amateur combat sports display.
Others include the celebrity global fashion show model, live comedy, and the celebrity global fine art talent fair.
