Tiger Woods is set to make his highly anticipated debut in the TGL, the new tech-driven indoor golf league, on January 14, according to an announcement made on Monday. The league has revealed its full schedule for the inaugural season, which will take place entirely in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Woods' first match is expected to occur in the second week of the season, within a venue designed to accommodate 1,500 fans. The innovative setup features a five-story simulator screen and an adjustable putting surface, creating a unique golfing experience.
The 48-year-old golfer, who has undergone back surgery in September and has had a limited playing schedule due to injuries, is not only a participant but also a part-owner of the Jupiter Links Golf Club.
This team includes notable players such as Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner. Jupiter Links will kick off their campaign against the Los Angeles Golf Club team, which boasts Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose.
In the TGL format, each team will select three players to compete in a 15-hole contest for every match. The contests will feature two segments: the first consists of nine holes played in a three-man alternate shot format, followed by six holes of singles head-to-head play.
The league's opening match on January 7 will showcase the New York Golf Club team, including Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young, going up against The Bay Golf Club team, which features Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, and Shane Lowry.
Founded in 2022 by Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports in collaboration with the PGA Tour, the TGL represents a new era of primetime golf, featuring six teams of four players engaging in a fast-paced format. McIlroy’s team, Boston Common Golf, which includes Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama, will face off against Woods’ Jupiter Links on January 27.
The matches will take place on real grass tee boxes, leading to custom-designed virtual holes displayed on a large screen, with live action transitioning to a short game complex designed to enhance the playing experience. Recently, organizers have upgraded the venue's structure after a power outage caused damage to the original air-supported dome.
