Tiger Woods will receive a special exemption into PGA Tour Signature Events starting next year, following approval by the US-based circuit's Policy Board during a meeting on Tuesday.
According to a memo obtained by Reuters, a new Signature Events sponsor exemption will be established to honor Woods, acknowledging his exceptional career achievements, which include over 80 career wins. The 48-year-old, who has amassed 15 major titles among his 82 PGA Tour victories, has faced a limited schedule due to various injuries and has not automatically qualified for these exclusive events.
This year, Woods has participated in four events, withdrawing from one, finishing last among those who made the cut at the Masters, and missing the cut at both the PGA Championship and the US Open. Signature Events, known for their limited fields and increased prize money, will see changes in 2024, with three of the eight events featuring a 36-hole cut. Eligibility for these events will include the top 50 players from the previous season's FedExCup points list through the Tour Championship.
