Tiger Woods appointed player director on PGA Tour's Policy Board, increasing golfers' involvement

Golf legend Tiger Woods has been appointed as a player director on the PGA Tour's Policy Board, giving golfers a more significant role in major decisions. This move follows the recent merger between the Tour, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and the DP World Tour, which caught players off guard.
 
Woods, a 15-time major winner, joins five other player directors, including Rory McIlroy, to represent the players' interests. The players will collaborate with Tour commissioner Jay Monahan to amend the board's governing documents to ensure that no major decision can be made in the future without the prior involvement and approval of the player directors.
 
The Framework Agreement discussions will grant the player directors full transparency and authority to accept or reject potential changes to the Tour. This step comes in response to the surprise announcement of the partnership between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which led to a sense of betrayal among players.
 
Players had felt left in the dark about the merger, especially after the disruption caused by the launch of LIV Golf with its significant prize funds. Many top players were drawn to LIV Golf, leading to calls for Monahan's resignation and a loss of trust in his leadership.
 
In response, Monahan has pledged to restore trust and confidence among the players, advocating for their best interests with input and approval from the player directors, PAC, and the broader membership.
 
The Tour reports that 41 players, including McIlroy, Rahm, Spieth, and Thomas, have expressed their support for the board changes. With Tiger Woods now in the role of player director, golfers hope to have a more significant say in shaping the future of the PGA Tour.
