Thomas Detry Ties for Lead at 2024 FedEx Open de France with Stellar Second Round

Posted : 11 October 2024

Thomas Detry drew on his experiences from this summer's Olympic Games as he shared the lead at the halfway point of the 2024 FedEx Open de France. The Belgian golfer carded an impressive second-round score of 63, replicating his performance from the Olympics held at Le Golf National in August. This solid play put him at nine under par, tied with Jesper Svensson and Dan Bradbury.

Trailing just one shot behind the leaders were five players, including Thorbjørn Olesen, who appeared poised to take the lead before faltering in the final two holes. Notably, French golfer Gregory Havret, competing in his last event before retirement, showcased his skill with a strong back nine that allowed him to continue playing into the weekend. In contrast, 16-year-old amateur Lev Grinberg impressed by making the cut at five under par.

Detry's standout performance was highlighted by his remarkable round, which began with a successful five-foot putt on the second hole, followed by three birdies in his first five holes. He maintained momentum, adding four more birdies over the next five holes, and capped off his round with his eighth birdie on the 17th, demonstrating his ability to navigate the course effectively.

Reflecting on his performance, Detry remarked on his great start and the opportunities presented by the golf course, particularly in the early holes. He emphasized the importance of driving well, which he managed throughout the week. With fond memories of previous successes at the venue, including his 63 at the Olympics, he expressed excitement about the support from friends and family nearby, contributing to his overall enjoyment of the tournament.
