The Open: Jon Rahm achieves his best round ever with 63
Posted : 23 July 2023
Jon Rahm delivered a spectacular performance in The 151st Open, producing his best-ever round on a links golf course with a remarkable 63, the lowest-ever score at Royal Liverpool in an Open Championship.
His eight birdies during the round propelled him to second place, six-under heading into the final day, reigniting his hopes of lifting the Claret Jug. Rahm expressed his joy and satisfaction, acknowledging it was his best round on a links course and was fully aware of the significance of the Open Championship.
For Rahm, who had a tough time in the first two rounds and barely made the cut, the turnaround was remarkable. He maintained confidence in his game despite the earlier frustrations and believed in his capabilities.
His game began to shine on the fifth hole, and a flurry of birdies on the back nine led to a phenomenal finish. His birdie attempts on the 1st and 2nd narrowly missed, but from the 5th hole onwards, everything seemed to click for him.
Rahm was conscious of the mistakes he made during the earlier rounds and recognized that his performance had been better than his scores suggested.
He had been frustrated with the costly shots he gave up in the major championships but remained confident in his abilities. His strong finish on Saturday showcased the improvement in his game and demonstrated his determination to bounce back.
Having made history with his spectacular round, Rahm's final statement about the opposite experiences on consecutive days seems like an understatement.
He heads into the final day of The Open Championship with renewed hope and the possibility of achieving his dream of becoming the second Spanish Champion Golfer.
