The Open Championship Round 2 review: Brian Harman tied Open Championship course record with 65
Posted : 21 July 2023
Brian Harman had a stellar second round at the Open Championship, tying the course record with a 65 to take a commanding lead at 10 under.
His impressive putting performance has been the key to his success, gaining over eight strokes on the greens. Harman made multiple birdie putts, including a chip-in and several clutch par putts, showcasing his skill with the putter.
The R&A made adjustments to the course's bunkers after the first round, as the dry conditions made them particularly challenging.
They raked the bunkers differently, aiming to encourage golf balls to end up further from the face, giving players more options for their shots.
The conditions will continue to be monitored for the remainder of the championship.
Australian golfer Min Woo Lee recovered from back-to-back bogeys with an eagle on the fifth hole, ultimately posting a 68 to put himself in contention. Tom Kim also had a strong round despite a tear in his ankle, shooting a 68 with four birdies and a bogey to secure a spot in the weekend rounds.
Brian Harman, a seasoned TOUR veteran, is now in a prime position to hold the 36-hole lead alone, a feat he has not achieved in a major championship before. With a sizable lead, Harman looks poised to continue his impressive performance at Royal Liverpool.
