A lot of golf fans were fascinated by Michael Block's performance in the recent US PGA Championship, as disclosed by Michael Block, including NBA superstar Michael Jordan.
Block, a club pro operating out of a public course in California, had his international debut last week in New York state, when he outperformed the greatest players in the world over a challenging Oak Hill layout.
Brooks Koepka won the tournament and earned his fifth major championship, but Block, 46, grabbed most of the attention after shooting a spectacular hole-in-one on his route to a T15th place finish on Sunday.
Block was invited to play in this week's Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour after his accomplishments earned him the invitation.
"Getting a text from Michael Jordan, that's pretty darn cool, to say the least," he told reporters.
"I'm a big Jordan guy my whole life. I was a little kid in Iowa saving 100 bucks for a pair of Jordans back in the day.”
When questioned about his response, Block referred to Jordan's allegedly daily unquenchable passion for the sport.
"I told him that I just want to be in one of his 36-hole games!” he joked.
Only 20 regular pros were eligible for the US PGA Championship, and Block was the only one to make the cut.
In addition, he disclosed that the 7-iron he used to ace the 15th hole on Sunday had been offered for sale.
