Thabang Simon secures Sunshine Tour status with victory at Altron Vusi Ngubeni Tournament

Thabang Simon expressed sheer delight after clinching a hard-earned victory at the recent Altron Vusi Ngubeni Tournament, securing playing privileges for himself and 12 others in the upcoming season of the Sunshine Tour.

 

 Despite facing stiff competition from Thanda Mavundla, Thabiso Ngcobo, and Slenda Sithebe in the final round, Simon maintained his composure, carding a final-round 69 to finish at 17-under and claim a one-stroke victory over Mavundla.

 

Reflecting on his win, Simon acknowledged the challenges posed by his competitors and emphasized the importance of staying focused and executing his game plan. He attributed his success to his ability to play the golf course rather than focusing solely on his opponents, highlighting the significance of remaining resilient and capitalizing on opportunities when they arose.

 

At 49 years old, Simon recognizes that he is nearing the senior stage of his career and plans to make the transition in the near future. Despite his age, he remains determined to compete at the highest level for the time being, aiming to retain his Sunshine Tour card and vie for success in the coming years.

 

However, he acknowledges the impressive talent among the younger generation of golfers and looks forward to the challenge they bring, while also considering his future prospects on the senior circuit as he approaches his 50th birthday next year.
