Super League: Niger Flickers whitewash Adamawa 17-0

Niger Flickers in the male category defeated Adamawa hockey team 17-0, at the ongoing 2023 Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) Super League to record their second win in the competition.
The match was played at the hockey Astro Turf of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Flickers have won one match and lost two while Adamawa lost three.
Flickers dominated the game right from the onset. Abdulkadri Salawu of Niger Flickers opened scoring in the seventh minute of the game through a penalty corner.
Five minutes later, Bala shamsudeen also scored through a penalty corner to double the tally.
Abdulkadri Sadiq, Ajibua Olawale, Chiroma Abubakar and Umar Danladi scored in the 17th, 24th, 29th and 29th minute through field goals.
Ezekiel Faluyi extended his record in the field goals scoring in the 30th, 32nd, 40th, 43rd and 46th minutes while Aliko Aliyu scored in the 33rd and 42nd minutes through penalty corner and Field goal.
The Adamawa team fought hard but was unable to convert their scoring chances.
Niger Flickers' Salawu added two goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes through penalty corner.
Danladi scored again in the 55th minute through a field goal while Abubakar scored at the hour mark through a field goal to weaken the Adamawa team.
Speaking after the match, Umar Danladi, captain of Flickers, said the team was back to winning ways and they hope to win their subsequent matches.
“In the 2022 super league, we came third position, our targets is to lift the trophy,” he said.
Also speaking, Urbanus Danbaki, coach of Adamawa hockey team said that the team hopes to start winning their subsequent matches.
“Me and my crew will go back and rebuild the team that will be of higher standard because these boys are young players compared to mature players on ground.
“We have been off the league since 2012 and we just came back. I appreciate Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, for rescuing the team.
Other games played in the men’s category, Stallions of Lagos State lost to Delta Force 0-1, Police Machine beat Yobe Desert Rollers 3-2 and Plateau Flickers beat Edo team 1-0.
A total of 20 teams are participating in the Super League, with nine of them in the women’s category and 11 in the men’s category.
The competition which began on Saturday is expected to end on Aug.5.
