South/South Prof Mike Ozekhome Open Weightlifting begins in Benin

The Edo State Weightlifting Association is organizing a 3-day Open Weightlifting Championship in Benin City, the Edo State capital, from Wednesday, August 21 to 24, featuring lifters from all the states in the South-South geopolitical zone of the country.


The weightlifting championship, titled 'Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN) South-South Open Weightlifting Championship,' is scheduled to take place between August 21-24 at the Multipurpose Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.


The championship will feature lifters from the South-South states, with the following weight categories for the snatch lift, clean and jerk lift for both men and women, respectively.


In the men's category, lifters will compete in 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, and 109kg, while the women's categories include 59kg, 64kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, and +87kg.


Meanwhile, the host, Edo weightlifters, have promised to be fully present to showcase their skills.
