South African golfers Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Erik van Rooyen have confirmed their participation in the prestigious Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City from December 5-8, 2024. This tournament, often referred to as 'Africa's Major', holds significant importance as part of the 2025 Race to Dubai, in partnership with Nedbank and Sun International. Joining defending champion Max Homa, both Bezuidenhout and Van Rooyen are set to compete at the Gary Player Country Club following their appearances at the Paris Olympics.
Bezuidenhout, who has fond memories of watching the tournament with his family as a child, returns to Sun City where he achieved a notable tied fifth finish in the 2022 Nedbank Golf Challenge. He also looks back on his victory at the Gary Player Country Club during the 2020 South African Open, marking a milestone in his career on the DP World Tour.
Reflecting on his upcoming participation, Bezuidenhout expressed his excitement, stating, "It was always a dream for me to play in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. There are some very good names on the trophy. To be able to have a chance to put my name on there is always a very special opportunity."
Meanwhile, Van Rooyen, a two-time PGA Tour winner, anticipates competing in front of his home fans at an event with deep historical roots in South African golf. His previous best performance in the Nedbank Golf Challenge was a tied 30th place in 2019, and he aims to improve upon that record this year.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge, inaugurated in 1981, pays homage to the legendary South African golfer Gary Player, a nine-time Major champion. Over the years, it has featured illustrious winners including Tommy Fleetwood, Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros, and numerous other Major champions, cementing its status as a cornerstone event in the global golfing calendar.
