Snooker Fest fetes over 400 billards at inaugural edition

Billiards enthusiasts, youths, and fun seekers from all over Nigeria gathered at the inaugural Snookers Fest 36, powered by Media LTD, in partnership with Hot FM and Pesoheti sports, to be entertained by the first Snooker festival in Nigeria held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Africa Sport Network (ASN), one of the media sponsors of the event, exclusively reported that the well-attended event attracted numerous youths from across the country, who enjoyed various billiard games.

The games, which the organizers believed would invigorate the development of sports and creative industries, were sponsored by Tecno Mobile, Fez delivery co, Moniepoint, and Liquor central. The event featured the best of Snooker, various card games, including Whot, Ludo, Monopoly, Casinos, Chess, Scrabble, among others.

The glamorous event, endorsed by the Cue Sports Association of Nigeria, Billiard Academy Nigeria, and Nigeria Premier Pool League, also presented other attractions, including music performances by emerging artists, while the invited DJ kept the attendees entertained.

During exclusive interviews, attendees expressed their excitement over the maiden edition of the Snooker Fest.

Rosemary Eneche from Enugu State said she was thrilled when she heard about the Snooker Fest and was not disappointed with the show. She enjoyed various fun activities in addition to playing Snooker.

Another billiards enthusiast, Donald Osahon, urged the organizers to keep the event more open to provide more opportunities for participants.

"This is a great innovation by the organizers, which I wasn't expecting at all. The organization is top-notch, especially the tables, which meet international standards. To continue the success of events like this, it should be open to participants from all over clubs in Lagos State. Other sports have their own competitions, and I believe it's time for Snooker to have its own, just as it's done abroad. Snooker is enjoyable and requires a lot of calculations and instincts; as a Snooker player, you need to be focused," he said.

For Henry Monye, Snookers Fest is a beautiful initiative worth the time and energy.

"This show is worth every sacrifice I've made. I had to travel back to attend this event. Initially, I thought this event wasn't worth bothering about, as I wasn't in Lagos. But later, I summoned the courage to attend, and it was worth the sacrifice," he said.

Emmanuel Agbaeze, the Creative Director and organizer of the 2023 Snooker Fest, stated that billiards was an avenue to showcase the talents of the billiard community in Nigeria to the world. He emphasized that the billiard community had the potential to strengthen the sports and tourism sectors in the country.

"There are different ideas behind this festival, but the main one is to showcase the enormous talents of the billiard community in the country to a global audience. The potential of this particular sport is underutilized. This festival is going to explore ways in which the billiard community can play major roles in boosting the sports sector in the country.

The 2023 Snooker Fest was also enhanced with various menus at food court stands on the party ground, where billiards enthusiasts connected, played, and competed to win cash and other exciting prizes, while enjoying performances from some of Nigeria's DJs, hype men, and invited music artists.
