Slade Pickering delivered an impressive second-round performance, carding a three-under-par 69 to extend his total to 12 under at the Betway Big Easy Tour 4 held at Akasia Golf Club on Wednesday. His solid play allowed him to establish a three-shot lead over the competition, as he maintained his position at the top of the leaderboard for the second consecutive day. Despite facing some challenges with his driver, Pickering remained focused and executed his game plan effectively throughout the round.
“I struggled a bit with my driver today, but I missed in the right spots,” Pickering remarked after his round. He emphasized the importance of sticking to his strategy, which involved keeping the ball in play, hitting fairways, and aiming for greens. Acknowledging the pressure that comes with leading a tournament, he expressed confidence in replicating the solid play he demonstrated in the first two rounds of this 54-hole event.
During his round, Pickering managed to achieve four birdies, one eagle, and three bogeys. He will need to maintain this level of play as he prepares for the final round, knowing that the competition is close behind him. Leading the chase is Tyrone Ryan, who surged into second place with an impressive round of 65, bringing his total to nine under and putting him firmly within striking distance of Pickering.
Ryan reflected on his performance, stating, “I played really well again today. The game has been trending in the right direction for a while now.” He mentioned that maintaining composure and avoiding pressure allowed him to perform solidly from tee to green, and a bit of good luck at key moments contributed to his successful round. The Betway Big Easy Tour, which serves as a development circuit for the Sunshine Tour, is supported by renowned golfer Ernie Els and has produced stars like Christiaan Bezuidenhout among its former Order of Merit winners.
