Skye Blakely, a highly regarded gymnast and two-time team world champion aiming for a spot in the Paris Olympics, sustained an injury during floor exercise training at the US Olympic gymnastics trials.
The 19-year-old Texan completed a tumbling pass but fell, prompting immediate attention from medical staff at Target Centre. She was subsequently carried off the podium and left the arena in a wheelchair, indicating an apparent leg injury.
As of now, there has been no update on Skye Blakely's condition or her availability for the upcoming trials. The women's competition is set for Friday and Sunday, with the final five-woman team for Paris slated to be announced on Sunday night.
Blakely had entered Minneapolis on the heels of a second-place finish to Simone Biles at the recent US championships in Fort Worth, where she showcased a more challenging vault that earned her a high apparatus score of 15 points.
This setback echoes a similar incident in 2021 when Blakely, then a 16-year-old rising star, injured herself during warm-ups at the Tokyo Games trials. Back then, she was not yet considered a frontrunner for Olympic team selection.
