Two Nigerian Scrabble prodigies, Aliu AbdulQudus Olawale and Olojoku Sufyan Boluwatife, have had their dreams of playing in the 2024 World Youth Scrabble Championships (WYSC) significantly boosted, as the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has promised to cover their expenses.
The duo have been selected to represent Nigeria at the 2024 World Youth Scrabble Championships (WYSC).
Aliu AbdulQudus Olawale and Olojoku Sufyan Boluwatife, the skillful under-17 Scrabble athletes known for their creative wordplay that often catches opponents off guard, are students at the iconic Government High School, Adeta Ilorin.
Last year, these two tactical geniuses, who skillfully use tiles to maximize their advantage, won gold for Kwara at the 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, thanks to the preparation provided by the Kwara State Sports Commission.
The 2024 WYSC will kick off on Friday, September 6, 2024, in Sri Lanka. Nigeria’s contingent, which includes Prestige Archibong, the winner of the African Youth Scrabble Championship (WASC U-15), along with Olawale and Boluwatife, is in high spirits.
Governor AbdulRazaq's recent investment in sports has been yielding results, with athletes from Kwara State breaking barriers in various sports, including Squash, Scrabble, Table Tennis, and Badminton, among others.
