Scottie Scheffler Wins Tour Championship and FedEx Cup with Dominant Performance

Posted : 02 September 2024

Scottie Scheffler sealed his remarkable 2024 PGA Tour season by winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday, clinching the FedEx Cup for the first time in his career. Scheffler finished the tournament at an impressive 30 under par, securing a four-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa with a final round of 4-under 67. The win not only added the FedEx Cup to Scheffler's achievements but also earned him a substantial $25 million bonus.

Despite a challenging start with back-to-back bogeys, Scheffler rebounded strongly with a three-birdie streak from holes 9 to 11 and a crucial eagle putt at the par-5 14th. His commanding performance throughout the season reaffirms his position as one of the top golfers in the world. Morikawa, who had applied early pressure and finished with a round of 66, couldn't overcome Scheffler's lead.

This win marked Scheffler's first FedEx Cup and his seventh tour victory of the season, a feat not achieved since Tiger Woods in 2007. In addition to his Tour Championship success, Scheffler accumulated $29,228,357 in official earnings this season, setting a new record for the most official money won in a single season for the third consecutive year.

Starting the final round with a five-stroke lead, Scheffler increased his margin to seven strokes early on. Despite a few setbacks, including three bogeys in four holes, he regained control with key birdies. Morikawa's late birdies weren't enough to close the gap, while Sahith Theegala secured third place with a 24-under total. Russell Henley delivered a spectacular final round of 62 to finish tied for fourth alongside Xander Schauffele and Adam Scott.
