Scottie Scheffler, the World No. 1 and a dominant force on the PGA Tour with six victories this season, including the Masters and a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, faces a new challenge this week in Colorado. The BMW Championship, part of the FedEx Cup playoffs, is being held at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, where the course stretches to a record 8,130 yards and players contend with the high altitude.
Scheffler, who has previously struggled with altitude, has drawn on his experience from a family vacation in Telluride, Colorado, which is at a higher elevation than Castle Rock. Telluride sits at 8,754 feet above sea level, while Castle Pines is at 6,332 feet. He mentioned that the experience in Telluride, where he encountered altitude-related issues, has helped him prepare for this week's tournament.
Reflecting on his earlier days on the Korn Ferry Tour, Scheffler recalled challenges with high elevations in places like Bogota, Colombia. He described experiencing discomfort and disrupted sleep due to the altitude, but believes that his past experiences have better equipped him to handle the conditions this week. Despite feeling out of breath more quickly during his recent workouts, Scheffler is confident in his preparation and system, hoping to continue his successful run.
