World number one Scottie Scheffler will head into the final round of the Tour Championship with a commanding five-shot lead. Despite a slow start, Scheffler rallied strongly in the third round, making birdies on four of the last five holes to card a 66, giving him a total of 26-under-par. This puts him five strokes clear of compatriot Collin Morikawa, who had narrowed the gap to two shots on the front nine but saw Scheffler regain momentum with consecutive birdies on the seventh and eighth holes.
Scheffler, who is vying for his first FedExCup title, expressed confidence heading into the final round. "I've had my chances here to win some tournaments and I'll have no better opportunity than Sunday," he said, noting that he feels mentally prepared for the challenge.
Morikawa also finished strong, with birdies on three of his last four holes, keeping himself in contention despite the deficit. "It's going to be very hard but I believe in myself that I can do it," he said, determined to make the most of the remaining 18 holes.
The biggest mover of the day was Sahith Theegala, who surged into third place with five consecutive birdies, finishing the round at 17-under-par. Xander Schauffele, who was previously in third, now trails Theegala. The winner of the Tour Championship will earn a substantial prize of £19 million.
