At the halfway stage of the US PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, and Corey Conners are in the lead, while Jon Rahm is struggling to make the cut.
After Scheffler and Conners both shot two-under 68s and Hovland carded a 67, the foursome is now on five under at Oak Hill.
Rory McIlroy appeared to be in a better mood as he shot 69 to get to level par, while Bryson DeChambeau sits two back and Brooks Koepka is one further down.
Justin Thomas, the defending winner, made the cut after sinking a bogey putt on hole 18.
The top 70 and ties advance to the weekend, and Jordan Spieth also made a vital putt on the last to finish with a 72 and tie for fifth place with Justin Thomas.
In 2021, when he won this championship at the age of 50, Phil Mickelson, who was already the oldest major champion, barely made it to the last two rounds.
However, Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, the US Open winner, missed the cut by one after losing strokes on his final two holes despite having earlier in the week said how much he liked this type of attritional struggle.
