Sara Cox became the most-capped female test referee, citing Clare Daniels for her success

Sara Cox, the trailblazing English referee, recently made history as the most-capped female test referee of all time after officiating her 35th test in Ottawa. She was not aware of this achievement until a tweet from World Rugby congratulated her.
Cox has been a pioneer for female match officials in her nine-year international career and credits her compatriot, Clare Daniels, for paving the way for her success.
Female match officials in rugby have been making significant strides, with Hollie Davidson becoming the first woman to referee at the World Rugby U20 Championship and Joy Neville selected as a TMO for Rugby World Cup 2023. Aimee Barrett-Theron also made strides, reaching the same number of caps as Clare Daniels and closing in on Cox's record.
Cox values the support and advice from her peers, who form a close-knit community that helps each other both on and off the field. The growth of the women's game excites her, and she is motivated to contribute to its progress and inspire more young women and girls to get involved in rugby officiating.
The women's game has seen a significant rise in popularity, with record crowds attending matches like the Black Ferns vs. Canada encounter in Ottawa, where 10,092 fans were present. Cox believes the future of women's rugby holds enormous potential and is eager to witness its continued development.
