South Korea's Ryu Hae-ran delivered an exceptional performance during the second round of the LPGA's FM Championship at Norton, Massachusetts, shooting a remarkable 10-under 62 to establish a commanding six-stroke lead. At TPC Boston, the 23-year-old golfer began her round with an impressive streak of four consecutive birdies starting from the fourth hole, and followed this with another four-birdie run from the 14th hole, demonstrating her dominance on the course as she pursues her second LPGA Tour victory.
Ryu, who is in her second year on the LPGA Tour, expressed her excitement about her performance, noting that her shots and putts were exceptionally accurate. She improved her previous career-low 18-hole score of 64, attributing her success to the course conditions that favored her game. Ryu appreciated the firm, small greens at TPC Boston, which complemented her precise shot-making abilities and allowed her to make numerous birdies.
The leaderboard shows a three-way tie for second place at 7-under, with Australian Robyn Choi, American Yealimi Noh, and Bianca Pagdanganan of the Philippines trailing Ryu by six strokes. Pagdanganan, who carded a bogey-free 6-under 66 with half of her birdies on the first three holes, admitted to a cooling putter after a strong start but remained optimistic. Despite feeling she could have maintained her hot streak, Pagdanganan is confident about her performance and looks forward to the remaining rounds.
As Ryu seeks to build on her success, she aims to add to her previous win in Arkansas last October. With two rounds left in the tournament, she is well-positioned to secure a significant victory, while her competitors will need to mount a significant challenge to catch up.
