Ryan van Velzen to Debut at Nedbank Golf Challenge 2024

Ryan van Velzen is set to make his debut at the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City from December 5 to 8, 2024. This event, often referred to as ‘Africa’s Major,’ will see Van Velzen represent a new generation of young South African golfers eager to make their mark. Tickets are now available for purchase, including an exciting new luxury public hospitality option designed to enhance the spectator experience.

Van Velzen earned his spot in this prestigious tournament following an impressive performance on the Sunshine Tour last season, where he clinched the overall Order of Merit title. His achievement has secured him a place among a competitive international field, which includes fellow South Africans Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Erik van Rooyen, as well as defending champion Max Homa from the United States. The tournament is presented in partnership with Nedbank and Sun International.

The Nedbank Golf Challenge, offering a $6 million prize pool, is a highlight of the DP World Tour’s Opening Swing and marks the beginning of the five Global Swings on the 2025 Race to Dubai. Van Velzen, who has already made his Major debut at The PGA Championship and The Open this year, expressed his excitement about participating. "It’s a privilege to have qualified and to play alongside the best players in the world. Having attended the event in the past with my dad and friends, watching stars like Lee Westwood and Tommy Fleetwood, it's a dream come true,” he said.

At just 22, Van Velzen has already achieved considerable success, including three wins on the Sunshine Tour and a DP World Tour card for the upcoming season. Reflecting on his recent Sunshine Tour Order of Merit victory, he noted the significance of the achievement. "Winning against some of the top players in the country and maintaining that level throughout the season gave me a strong sense of belonging and confidence,” he added.

This year’s tournament will also feature a new luxury hospitality option for fans, the Hospitali-TEE Lounge. Located near the Public Village, this air-conditioned facility will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, a live feed of the golf, and all-day catering. The package includes an official entrance ticket, exclusive access to the lounge, a premium buffet, an open bar, a coffee station, live entertainment, player autograph opportunities, and official tournament merchandise, promising an elevated experience for attendees.
