Ruoning Yin, representing China, displayed composure as she sank a birdie on the 72nd hole to secure her first major victory at the Women's PGA Championship.
At seven under par, the 20-year-old golfer was tied with Japan's Yuka Saso as they approached the par-five 18th hole on Sunday. With remarkable calmness, Yin rolled in her fourth birdie of the final round, clinching the championship title in New Jersey and claiming her maiden major win.
Yin completed a bogey-free round of 67, finishing the tournament at eight under (276) overall. Saso finished one stroke behind in second place, having carded a final-round 66.
Reflecting on her performance, Yin said, "I knew I had to make a birdie on that hole to win the championship, and I am glad I did it." She demonstrated exceptional course management, missing only six greens over the four days of play.
Leona Maguire from Ireland started the day with a one-shot lead but slipped down the leaderboard, ultimately finishing in a tie for 11th place, four shots behind Yin.
Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow briefly held hope with a birdie on the 17th hole, but she needed an eagle on the final hole to force a playoff. Unfortunately, she could only manage a par, resulting in a tie for third place at six under.
Rose Zhang, a former amateur standout who recently made her professional debut by winning the Mizuho Americas Open, was just one shot off the lead after recording six birdies in her first 14 holes on Sunday. However, a bogey on the 16th hole saw her finish in a tie for eighth place at five under par.
