Rory McIlroy Claims Pebble Beach Pro-Am Victory

Posted : 03 February 2025

Rory McIlroy secured his 27th career US PGA Tour title with a stunning back-nine performance on Sunday, finishing with a two-stroke victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The Northern Irishman carded a six-under 66, making three birdies and an eagle after the turn to finish at 21-under 267. Reflecting on his victory, McIlroy expressed how special it was to win at a course like Pebble Beach, despite the challenges and the tough competition.

Shane Lowry, the 2019 British Open champion, came in second place with a solid 68, finishing at 269. Though he was unable to overtake McIlroy, Lowry remained upbeat about his performance, acknowledging the difficulty of competing against a player like McIlroy, whose "A-game" is hard to beat. Past US Open champions Lucas Glover and Justin Rose shared third, with Rose delivering an impressive eagle putt on the 18th hole to cap off his round.

McIlroy's triumph marked only his second career win in California, the first being at the 2015 WGC Match Play. The victory also ensures McIlroy's eighth consecutive season with a win, and he aims to build momentum for the upcoming Masters, where he hopes to complete a career Grand Slam. The win also solidified McIlroy's strong start to the 2025 season, providing him with confidence as he looks ahead to the majors.

After a bogey on the eighth hole, McIlroy regained control with a birdie at the 10th and another at the 12th, which gave him a two-stroke lead. His eagle at the 14th, following a great tee shot and a precise 7-iron approach, extended his lead to four strokes. McIlroy finished with birdies at 15 and a tap-in par at 18, savoring the walk up the iconic 18th fairway as he clinched victory.
