Ronnie O'Sullivan has chosen to withdraw from the Championship League at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, anticipating his participation in the World Masters of Snooker event at Boulevard City in Riyadh next week. A statement confirmed his withdrawal from Group 7, turning it into a 6-player group for the remainder of the tournament. O'Sullivan will not continue in the Championship League in Leicester on Thursday, having withdrawn before his journey to Saudi Arabia.
Ranked as the world No. 1, O'Sullivan is set to depart for a prestigious invitational tournament, the World Masters of Snooker event at Boulevard City in Riyadh, where the top eight players globally will compete on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Despite winning his first two matches in Group 7, O'Sullivan faced defeats in the following two against Jak Jones and Joe O'Connor, finishing the day fourth in the race for a semi-final spot. With his departure from the invitational event, Jak Jones leads the section heading into the second day, competing against Slessor, O’Connor, Craigie, Pang Junxu, and Jordan Brown on Thursday.
Expressing his enthusiasm on social media, O'Sullivan stated, "Very excited to be playing in the World Masters of Snooker! Can’t wait to get out there and play in Saudi Arabia for the first time!" Jak Jones claimed the top spot in the section on Wednesday, including a notable 3-0 victory over O'Sullivan, concluding the day with two points alongside O'Connor and Brown. The top four players will progress to the semi-finals on Thursday evening.
