Ronnie O'Sullivan withdraws, citing exhaustion and stress from title defense
Posted : 14 November 2023
Ronnie O'Sullivan has opted not to defend his Champion of Champions title, citing a desire to prioritize his "mental health" and "body." The world No. 1 withdrew from the Bolton event after losing in the International Championship semi-finals in China. Originally set to face Zhang Anda on Wednesday, O'Sullivan conveyed his decision on social media, expressing feeling "drained and stressed." Despite winning the Champion of Champions last year, he won't participate this time. O'Sullivan apologized to fans and hinted at a potential return for the UK Championship in York on November 25.
Mark Allen, reaching the semi-finals by defeating Jimmy White and Ali Carter, won the tournament in 2020. Zhang Anda, victorious in the International Championship, heads into the Champion of Champions after making a 147 in the final against Tom Ford.
