The Rivers Whales Teqball team has qualified for the Mixed Doubles final of the 2024 Teqball Championship World Qualifier at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Abia State.
On Day Three of the event, the pair of Efosa Austin Obosa and Gladys Abasi defeated their opponents from Ondo State 2-0 in the semi-finals of the Mixed Doubles to advance to the final.
The Whales pair will next face Nigeria’s men's number two, Funsho Samson, and the country's female number one Teqball player, Rashidat Bukola Salal of Abia State, in the final. Rashidat Bukola is also the Mixed Doubles number one in Africa.
Meanwhile, Team Rivers' Ibinabo Alex Georgewill and Gladys Abasi will be participating in the Women’s Doubles event on Saturday morning in their quest to qualify for another final.
Rivers Whales are participating in all five categories of the competition: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
The competition will end on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Aba Sports Club, Aba.
Teqball is played like table tennis, with two separate teams or individuals on either end of the table, attempting to win points by hitting a football back and forth against their opponents.
