Rivers Whales to open 2024 Rector's Cup

Posted : 10 July 2024

The Rivers Whales Teqball team will play an exhibition mini-tournament as part of the activities lined up to mark the opening ceremony of the 2024 Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Rector's Cup.

The institution's Director of Sports, Engineer Daye Barango, made this request when executives of the Rivers State Teqball Association paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Barango promised to include Teqball as a scoring event in subsequent editions of the Rector's Cup once a good number of their students have understood the game.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of the Rivers State Teqball Association, Mr. Halim Zaccah Adebola, thanked the Sports Director for accommodating 'The Whales' during their training sessions at the institution.

Halim Zaccah also assured that Rivers Whales is open to teaching the game of Teqball to students of the Polytechnic as well as to students of other institutions across Rivers State.

Rivers Whales have been using the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic field and the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt as their training grounds.

The Coach Keshi Chijioke-led team has departed Port Harcourt for the 2024 Teqball Championship World Qualifier slated for Aba, Abia State.

The competition will be held from July 10th to 13th, 2024, at the Aba Sports Club, Aba.

Teqball is a football-based sport played on a specially-curved table. Similar to table tennis, players hit a football back and forth with any part of the body except arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game or between four players as a doubles game. The game is represented at the international level by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ).
