The Rivers Whales Teqball Team has continued to display their skills in a series of exhibition games as part of the activities marking the opening ceremony of this year’s Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Rector's Cup.
The two-week tournament, held at the Polytechnic Campus in Rumuola, Port Harcourt, saw the presence of the institution's Rector, Moses Neebee; Director of Sports, Daye Barango; heads of various departments of the Polytechnic; and officials of the Rivers State Teqball Association.
The Vice Chairman of the Rivers State Teqball Association, Halim Zaccah Adebola, promised a sum of N100,000 to the male football team that eventually wins the competition and pledged an additional N20,000 for the best player of the Rector's Cup.
Rector Moses Neebee thanked Mr. Halim Zaccah for his financial support and assured that Teqball would be included as part of their school sports program.
The Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic field was the first pitch used by the Rivers Whales Teqball team for their training before the Yakubu Gowon Stadium side-pitch was allocated to them by the Rivers State Government.
Teqball is played on a specially curved table. Similar to table tennis, the players hit a football back and forth using any part of their body except their arms and hands. It can be played between two players as a singles event or between four players as a doubles event.
The game is represented at the international level by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ).
