Rivers State inaugurates state-named Teqball team

Posted : 26 April 2024

The Rivers State Teqball Association has inaugurated its Teqball team, to be known as the RIVERS WHALES TEQBALL TEAM.

The executives of the Rivers State Teqball Association made this decision during a meeting at the ATM Hotel in Eleme.

The board unanimously agreed to adopt the name 'Whales' due to the strength of the team as well as the geographical location of the state.

The Rivers Whales Teqball team is expected to engage in an exhibition tour in some secondary schools in Rivers State, where students will be able to learn the game of Teqball.

The team is currently preparing for the National Teqball Championship scheduled for Bayelsa State on a date yet to be decided.

Present at the meeting were the state Teqball chairman, Barr. Wuwu Gomba, Mr. Halim Zaccah Adebola (Vice Chairman), Mr. Viura Lezigha (Secretary), Ambassador Jim Opiki, Coach Chijioke Keshi (state team coach), and Rivers State Teqball referee, Damiete Odigi.

Teqball is a football-based sport played on a specially curved table. Similar to table tennis, players hit a football back and forth with any part of the body except the arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game or between four players as a doubles game. The game is represented at the international level by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ).
