An up-and-coming Australian golfer, Jeffrey Guan, faced a serious health crisis after being struck in the face by a ball during a pro-am event south of Sydney. The 20-year-old was airlifted to a hospital for surgery, with concerns raised about potential vision loss following the incident.
According to officials from the Australian PGA, Guan was hit just below his eye and initially received treatment on the course. He was subsequently transferred to the hospital for scans and then airlifted to Canberra to be evaluated by an eye specialist.
Guan, who recently joined the same management company as major champions Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson, made his US PGA Tour debut earlier this month. He received a sponsor's invitation to the PGA Tour Procore Championship in California, where he narrowly missed the cut after rounds of 69 and 75.
His coach, Paul Davis, expressed deep concern about the situation, calling it "truly awful" and emphasizing the unfortunate timing following Guan's promising performance in California. The incident has cast a shadow over what was otherwise an exciting week for the young golfer.
