Reece Brown Aims for KZN Team Selection in Inter-Provincial Tournament

Posted : 10 September 2024

As part of the 2024 high-performance intake for the KZN Golf Union, Reece Brown, a matric pupil from Kearsney College, is aiming to secure a spot on the KZN team for the Inter-Provincial Tournament in Gqeberha later this year. Brown has joined a prestigious group of KZN golfers in the advanced program established by the union, which provides comprehensive support across all aspects of the game and has been integral to the players' past successes.

Golf has been a significant part of Brown's life from a very young age. "From the moment I could stand, I was swinging a golf club," Brown recalled. His early exposure to the sport came from frequent visits to the driving range with his father and grandfather when he was just 18 months old. Growing up on golf courses like Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate and Cotswold Downs Country Club Estate, he was constantly immersed in the game.

Brown's involvement in golf has evolved since his primary school days when he joined Highbury’s golf team and competed against other schools. He has seen significant growth in his game over the years and believes that being part of the KZN Golf High Performance Programme has greatly contributed to his development. "The benefits of being in the high-performance squad have been amazing," he said, noting the improvements in his consistency and enjoyment of the training sessions.

Outside of golf, Brown enjoys playing padel and spending time with friends while studying for his matric exams. He plans to pursue a degree in Quantity Surveying after school and aims to balance his studies with golf. Brown, a resident of Cotswold Downs, considers the Upper Highway course his favorite due to its excellent condition and the friendly community. His performance at the KZN Players Championship, where he made it to a play-off, stands out as one of his proudest achievements, and he is now focused on earning a place in the final team for the December tournament.
