In the opening round of the US PGA Tour Cognizant Classic at PGA National Resort, Chad Ramey from the United States and South Korea's Kim Seong-hyeon seized the lead with impressive bogey-free rounds of seven-under-par.
The pair edged ahead by one stroke, leading a group of six players who finished with six-under. Taking advantage of favorable playing conditions early in the day, Ramey, 31, capitalized on the calm atmosphere, making a 27-foot birdie putt on the first hole and reaching the turn at five-under.
Ramey, seeking his second PGA Tour win, emphasized the importance of utilizing the calm conditions, anticipating challenging winds in the coming days.
Kim Seong-hyeon, also capitalizing on the early tee-off, secured a strong start with a birdie on the par-4 second hole and an impressive eagle on the par-5 third, chipping in from 75 feet.
Despite a wayward drive on the 18th, Kim managed to birdie with a 14-foot putt, sharing the lead with Ramey.
Other players, including Cameron Young, Ryan Moore, Chesson Hadley, Austin Eckroat, Andrew Novak, and David Skinns, posted solid rounds of 65, trailing the leading pair by one stroke.
