Paul Boshoff secured a two-stroke victory over Xander Basson at CMR Golf Club on Thursday, ending a six-year winless streak. His final-round score of 67 brought his total to 17-under-par 199, two strokes clear of Basson, who shot an impressive 63 to take second place. This win marked Boshoff’s second career victory on the Big Easy Tour, with his first coming in 2018 at Randpark Golf Club.
In his post-victory interview, Boshoff expressed relief and happiness, acknowledging the challenges he faced over the past few years. He noted that while he had been playing well in recent months, a few bad rounds had often hindered his progress. Boshoff emphasized the significance of winning against such a strong field, recognizing that the level of competition on the Big Easy Tour often goes underestimated.
This victory significantly boosted Boshoff’s chances of earning a Sunshine Tour card for the next season, lifting him to third place on the Order of Merit. He reflected on his 2018 win, noting that while his emotions were different back then, this victory carried even more weight. Boshoff’s recent success has positioned him to continue his career progression, with aspirations of playing on the Sunshine Tour and eventually competing internationally.
With renewed confidence, Boshoff looks forward to the rest of the season. The top 12 players on the Order of Merit standings at the end of the season will earn their Sunshine Tour cards, and Boshoff has now firmly placed himself in contention. The Betway Big Easy Tour, which is backed by South African golfing legend Ernie Els, continues to serve as an important stepping stone for emerging South African golfers.
