Paris 2024: Men's golf tee times for Fleetwood, McIlroy, Scheffler

Posted : 03 August 2024

The men’s golf tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics will resume on Saturday, August 3, at Le Golf National. Tommy Fleetwood of Team GB is currently tied for the lead with Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and defending champion Xander Schauffele. This trio will play together later in the day. Rory McIlroy is scheduled to start his round at 10:44 BST, while the world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, will begin his round at 11:06. The morning will see the start of the third round, with the first group teeing off at 8am UK time.

As the tournament moves into its third round, Fleetwood, Matsuyama, and Schauffele are all tied at the top of the leaderboard. The event, held at Le Golf National, which previously hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018, will see its penultimate day of play on Saturday. Fleetwood, who began with a four-under par first round, improved significantly in his second round to join Matsuyama and Schauffele at the top.

Fleetwood's second round featured six birdies and an eagle, despite ending with a bogey, bringing his total to 11 under par. Matsuyama, who led after the first day, and Schauffele, the defending Olympic champion, are also tied with Fleetwood. The leading trio will be the last group to tee off on Saturday morning, beginning at 11:39 BST.

Rory McIlroy, currently six shots behind the leaders at five under par, will start his third round at 10:44 alongside Corey Conners of Canada and Australia’s Jason Day, both also at five under. McIlroy had a mixed performance in his opening rounds, with five birdies and an eagle on the first day but also four bogeys.

McIlroy’s second round included an eagle and four birdies, though it was marred by two bogeys and a double bogey. Reflecting on his play, McIlroy described it as "a bit up and down," noting that he did not have much preparation between The Open and the Olympics.

The Irish golfer narrowly missed out on a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games and has expressed a strong desire to win an Olympic medal before his career ends. He emphasized the significance of winning a gold medal in Paris, stating it would be one of the biggest achievements of his career in the past decade.

As the tournament progresses, McIlroy’s performance will be closely watched as he aims to overcome his current position and secure an Olympic medal. Meanwhile, Fleetwood, Matsuyama, and Schauffele will look to capitalize on their strong positions and secure a spot in the final round.
