The organizers of the 11th Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Championships have released the final list of participants for the ranking tournament.
The organizers, through their Director of Organization, Emeh Ekong, said that the tournament would tee off on October 17th and conclude with a lavish ceremony on the 19th at the Ikeja Golf Club.
Ekong mentioned that the Junior Golf Championships would also feature four junior golfers from Ghana.
The names of the golfers are Ellen Amezado, Rejoice Jargo, David Ajenyo, and Silvia Amuzu.
Headlining the Nigerian contingent is the golf prodigy Funmilayo Oyero, who was the silver medalist at the recently concluded National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba.
Regarding the list of golfers, Ekong stated that the participants were selected based on the National Junior Order of Merit.
"The contestants are chosen based on their rankings in the National Junior Order of Merit.
"Additionally, consideration is given to medal winners (who are not over-aged) from the recently concluded youth festival held in Asaba. We are committed to raising the standard of play with a wider geographical spread; therefore, we are compelled to request that the states present only two junior players to represent them, apart from those on the merit list.
The states to present participants are Oyo State, Plateau State, FCT, Nasarawa State, Ekiti State, Ogun State, Kano State, and Kwara State.
The categories to be competed for are: U-6 to U-8, U-9 to U-11, U-12 to U-13, and U-14 to U-15.
The program of events is as follows:
Date: October 17th - 19th
Time: 7:00 AM Daily
Arrival of Guests, Registration, Practice: Thursday, October 17th.
Tournament: Friday, October 18th to Saturday, October 19th.
Departure: Saturday, October 19th.
