Osun United Handball club makes history, secures S/final spot

Osun United Handball Club has made history by securing a semi-final berth in the ongoing National Division One Handball League. The Imole Boys clinched their spot after a decisive 16-10 victory over Imo Lions in a keenly contested match on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.


This result dashed the hopes of Bayelsa Kings, who were relying on Osun United's loss to have any chance of qualifying from Group D. With this victory, Osun United now sits atop Group D with 9 points, having won all three of their group stage matches.


Osun United has qualified for the semi-finals of the National Division One Handball League for the first time in their history. They will face Vipers of Jos, Plateau State, who qualified from Group B, in the semi-finals. The two finalists from tomorrow's semi-finals will automatically qualify for the Ardova Premier Handball League, Nigeria's top-tier handball event.


Emerging as group leaders in Group D, Osun United had earlier defeated Bayelsa Kings on Match Day 1 of the league. They continued their winning streak by defeating Confluence Snappers of Kogi State in the second match and secured their semi-final spot with a convincing win over Imo Lions, maintaining a 100% record in Group D.


Speaking after the match, Assistant Coach Richard Albert said, "People never expected our team to reach this stage. They had already written us off and underrated our team even before we arrived in Benin. They thought nothing good could come out of Osun, but thank God for helping us prove them wrong. Now we pray for God’s grace so we can return home with the Ardova Premier Handball League ticket by defeating Vipers of Jos, Plateau State, tomorrow."


Osun United's remarkable performance in the National Division One Handball League showcases their determination and skill, setting them up for a potentially historic achievement in the upcoming semi-finals.
