The Anambra female volleyball team started their campaign at the ongoing National Youth Games in Delta State with a 2-1 win over their Kano counterparts on Day 1 of the volleyball event. The Anambra girls secured a hard-fought victory in the game played at the Igwashi Ukwu township stadium.
The team will have a busy day on Day 2 as they face foes from Lagos and Delta States in their second and third matches at the games. Victory in these games will earn a spot in the semi-final stage of the competition.
In the male category, Anambra will commence hostilities with matches against Adamawa and Akwa Ibom states. Ndudi Ijomah, coach of the Anambra volleyball team, described the match as keenly contested.
Ijomah said the victory was a good one and a morale booster, noting that while Day-2 would be a tight schedule, he was hopeful of making it to the semis.
Other matches on Day 2 of the volleyball event are Bayelsa vs. Bauchi, Kano vs. Delta, Oyo vs. Kaduna, Oyo vs. Bauchi, Lagos vs. Kano, and Kaduna vs. Bayelsa. For the male, Sokoto vs. Kaduna, Delta vs. Bayelsa, Lagos vs. Oyo, Lagos vs. Bayelsa, and Delta vs. Oyo.
