The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, presented a progress report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the state of the sports sector.
The report was delivered by the NSC’s leadership team during a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him and the Director General, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them by the President and Nigerians under the NSC’s new leadership.
"As the father of the nation, I want to thank you once again for choosing me and my brother, the DG, Bukola Olopade, for this all-important assignment. I see it as a massive opportunity to help propagate the Renewed Hope agenda through sports," Dikko said.
"I want to assure you once again that we are very focused and determined not to disappoint you, sir, because we know how passionate you are about the growth of this country across all sectors.
"We have already started work, and the response we are getting from stakeholders and the private sector has been very encouraging. We have no doubt that your Renewed Hope agenda will surely be fulfilled in the sports sector," Dikko added.
Director General Olopade echoed the Chairman's sentiments, thanking the President for his support for sports and pledging to deliver on their responsibilities.
"As our father, I want to specially thank you, sir, for all you are doing and for being a sports-loving father to the country. On our part, we promise not to fail you and the country,” Olopade stated.
"You have shown us that you have a special place for sports in your heart, and we are determined to contribute to the legacies you want to leave in Nigerian sports.
"You are very determined to ensure Nigerian sports achieves a sustainable economic outlook, and we will not disappoint you in making this a reality," he concluded.
The meeting was also attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Adegboye Adeyinka, who pledged to use his office to galvanize sports development at the grassroots level.
The meeting reaffirmed President Tinubu's commitment to revitalizing Nigeria's sports sector by fostering growth, sustainability, and private-sector collaboration.
The new NSC leadership pledged to sustain this momentum to ensure the Nigerian sports sector becomes a key player in the nation’s economy.
