Nnenna Ahube clinches victory at 2023 Nigeria Ladies Open, bringing trophy to Bonny Island

The Lady Captain of the Bonny Island Golf Club (BIGC), Nnenna Ahube, emerged as the winner of the 2023 Nigeria Ladies Open in Abuja.

 

Ahube secured the overall victory on Sunday after playing 251 gross over three days. With a playing handicap (HCP) of 12, she posted gross scores of 85, 81, and 85 over consecutive days, totaling 251 gross.

 

Her triumph came among more than 125 lady golfers who competed for the prestigious 2023 Nigerian Ladies Open trophy at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja.

 

“I represented the Eastern zone and am thrilled to take the trophy back home from Abuja to Bonny Island. I played alongside amazing ladies from different golf clubs across the country. It was an exhausting but fortunate day for me in golf,” said Ahube.

 

While acknowledging the course's challenge, being her first experience at the TYB International Golf Resort Resort and Club, the BIGC lady captain expressed joy in overcoming obstacles by the end of the pulsating encounter.

 

Ahube detailed her challenging moments, highlighting specific holes that presented difficulty on the final day, recalling her ups and downs during the competition.

 

Following Ahube, Blessing Obaje from the Northern zone secured a total score of 253 over 18 holes in the handicap 0-18 category. Comfort Adokole with 255 gross and Rita Izoje with 261 gross claimed 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

 

Auxiliary prizes were also awarded, with Obioma Elijah claiming the longest drive on Day 1, and Grace Ogeili securing the same prize on Day 2. Angel Ajuzie and Faith Otunyo won nearest to the pin prizes for their remarkable efforts on Days 1 and 2, respectively.

 

In the zonal competition, Sandra Emina and Igho Ugbehu of the Southern Zone emerged victorious, while representatives from the Northern Zone showcased impressive performance, securing the win in the march past parade.

 

The 2023 Nigeria Ladies Open, organized by LGAN, took place from Thursday to Sunday at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja.
