Nigeria to beat previous Olympics records, says Sports Minister, Enoh

Posted : 19 July 2024

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has stated that his goal is for Team Nigeria to surpass the country's best Olympic performance, achieved in 1996, at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

He made this statement during a media briefing at the Media Center of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

"Just as we did for the African Games in Accra, Ghana, I will outline from A to Z the entitlements for our athletes.

"My goal is for the nation to surpass our previous record from our best Olympic performance in 1996," said Senator Enoh.

"We have been working toward this goal through our preparations, arrangements, and performance team, which is working with athletes in Germany. I receive progress reports every day."

The minister added that his open and engaging leadership style aims to make athletes feel appreciated and valued by the country.

"We want our athletes to feel appreciated and valued by our nation," he stated.

Senator Enoh also highlighted the financial support allocated for the athletes, including the full ₦100 million donation from the Federal House of Representatives.

"The entire ₦100 million donation from the Federal House of Representatives will be fully allocated to the athletes," he confirmed.

In addition, athletes will receive allowances for local camping, foreign training grants, foreign training camp allowances, Olympic Games allowances, and winning bonuses.

Senator Enoh's commitment to transparency and support for the athletes underscores the government's dedication to ensuring Team Nigeria's success at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
